Intl. Blog Against Racism Week
Welcome to International Blog Against Racism Week!

For 2007, IBARW will take place between August 6 through August 12.

If you would like to participate, here's what to do:

  1. Announce the week in your blog.

  2. Switch your default icon to either an official IBAR week icon, or one which you feel is appropriate. To get an official IBAR week icon, you may modify one of yours yourself or ask someone to do so. Here's a round up of IBARW icons.

  3. Post about race and/or racism: in media, in life, in the news, personal experiences, writing characters of a race that isn't yours, portrayals of race in fiction, review a book on the subject, etc. (Linking back here is highly appreciated!)

For inspiration, here are last year's IBARW posts. You can also check out this post for further resources.

We'll be compiling links for IBARW2 as well, both in the IBARW del.icio.us account and with daily round-ups on this journal. Here's the round-up post for Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007.

Please to be noting that the nifty posting of links from del.icio.us to LJ is still undergoing troubleshooting, so right now, the best way to check for new IBARW links is the del.icio.us account.

PSST: It will help a lot on del.icio.us if you title your entry something topical, as opposed to just "Intl. Blog Against Racism Week."

Awesome ... I have posted to both my message boards, requesting clearance to do posts about this with their blessing.

Hey, are the compilers going to be seeking out links, or is there a place on the comm where anyone might drop a link to their own or others posts to help out?
6th-Aug-2007 04:35 am (UTC)
Both, I think? I'm going to set up a post tonight on the comm for link gathering, and there'll be new posts for each day. Or something.

Just an FYI: your link in the third sentence up from the bottom "IBARW del.icio.us account" is missing a letter so clicking on it generates a "server not found" error.

Ooo, thanks, and fixed.

Odd question, I'm sure, but do you want all links for this project, even if they're friends-locked? It seems like you're doing a headcount of posts in addition to providing people with more resources, so ... just checking.
10th-Aug-2007 08:13 pm (UTC)
I think right now we're just trying to grab the public ones, just because I don't want to direct people to other people's flocked posts. But thanks for checking! And people are also welcome to post under flock. Hrm. If they want to be counted, they could also do an announcement-only post and just note that they'll be posting under flock?

You asked for links back here, and since I don't think any of the compilers/organisers are on my flist, here's my link to my distinctly rambly post about me & my ethnicity.

When I realized that I am human just like the next person, and the only difference between myself and anyone else is life experience, I began to see that inherent superiority thing as true non-sense. If we all began to acknowledge how ignorant the concept is we can move a little closer to racial harmony and equality. It takes work from us all, and we must diligently pursue the goal of stamping out racism one person at a time.
